Every journey leaves us with two stories worth telling: the places that felt like discoveries, and the clothes that made us feel like ourselves while we found them.
Where We Stayed & What We Wore is BeachCult's new travel series, pairing the destinations we'd book again without hesitation with the pieces from our collection that travelled with us - swimwear worn every morning, dresses that caught the afternoon breeze, and resortwear that became part of the memory.
Our first stop: Sri Lanka's southern coast, where our founder, Joanna, spent a few unhurried days at Eraeliya Villas & Gardens, just outside Weligama.

A Villa on Sri Lanka's South Coast
There's a particular stillness to this stretch of coastline - somewhere in the rhythm of the waves, the cinnamon scent in the air, and the warmth of the Indian Ocean, everything moves a little slower.
Travelling as a family with two young children, Jo stayed in Villa Walauwa, and from the moment she arrived it felt less like checking into a hotel and more like stepping into a beautifully curated holiday home: white walls, dark timber interiors, locally sourced artwork, and windows framed around uninterrupted ocean views.
Breakfast arrived on the private terrace each morning - no buffet, no rush. Just fresh tropical fruit, Sri Lankan specialties and coffee at their own pace, while the children played nearby.

Beach Days Below the Villa
The beach directly below Eraeliya delivers everything you'd hope for from Sri Lanka's south coast: soft golden sand, warm turquoise water, a great surf spot, and a rare sense of calm.
For family travel, having the beach just steps from the villa made all the difference - swim, wander, return for snacks or naps, then head back out. It also made the perfect backdrop for an easy holiday wardrobe built around Daydream swimwear, flowing dresses and Babylon resortwear, styled to move seamlessly from beach to sunset drinks.

Evenings at Kikki e Nonna
One unexpected favourite was Kikki e Nonna, the intimate wine bar on the property, run by the owner's daughter. French rosé, beautifully prepared small plates and a warm atmosphere made it Jo's spot to unwind once the children were asleep.

Exploring Sri Lanka's South Coast
Eraeliya's location made it an ideal base for exploring more of Sri Lanka's south coast. One day was spent wandering the historic streets of Galle Fort, another, a relaxed afternoon by the sea in Mirissa. Both were easy day trips, with plenty of time to return to the villa before sunset.

The People that Made It
As beautiful as the setting was, it was the people who made the stay exceptional.
Anticipating what was needed before being asked, attentive without ever feeling intrusive. Travelling with two young children usually means constant logistics; here, it simply felt easy.
Their warmth, kindness and genuine care created the feeling that we weren't simply guests, but welcomed into someone's home.

What We Wore
Sri Lanka's unhurried pace called for a wardrobe just as relaxed: flowing dresses that moved from breakfast to beach walks, and swimwear that spent more time on than off.
Jo packed:
-
Wildflower Barcelona Dress
-
Moonflower Valencia Dress
-
Palm Ibiza Dress
-
Daydream Rio Bikini, paired with the Capri Kimono
-
Babylon Havana Bikini
-
Babylon Ibiza Dress
Each piece packed light, styled easily, and carried us through mornings, coastal afternoons and balmy evenings without a second thought.

Why We'd Return
Some hotels impress you while you're there. Eraeliya Villas & Gardens is the kind that stays with you after you've left - a place that invites you to slow down, linger over breakfast, and embrace the simplicity of travelling well.
It's exactly the kind of destination BeachCult was designed for - where a thoughtfully packed wardrobe, endless swims and unhurried days become all you really need.
This is only the beginning of Where We Stayed & What We Wore. We'll be sharing more of the hotels we love and the pieces that travelled with us every step of the way.
